My wife and kid both love it. In fact this is the 3rd time they’ve watched it and they’ve been listening to the soundtrack. I can’t get into it. Here’s a meme explaining why.

We watched it over two nights last week. I enjoyed it. I thought the libretto, of you can call it that in a show, was very clever. And I loved Daveed Diggs as Jefferson. Strictly musically, there’s not a whole lot there. But it’s a rap show, so I wouldn’t expect much. And when my middle schoolers started explaining the history to me because they remembered it from school, I was all in.

I’m with you. I watched a bit of it last weekend, and just could not get into it.
It isn’t solely a Hamilton issue. I feel the same way about musical theater and musical films in general. I don’t dispute that productions like Hamilton and Les Miserables are cultural icons and works of genius. They absolutely are. They simply aren’t to my taste.
Just like I can walk into a museum and realize there are paintings and sculptures I adore, and others that simply don’t speak to me at all. I would never say Jackson Pollock was not a “real artist”, but I also can’t fathom spending $140 million on a bunch of seemingly random paint splats.

I enjoyed it much more than expected. I hate musicals for so so so many reasons. But this felt fresh, removed from every other musical I've ever been forced to sit through. I still would not say I loved it by any means, but liked it well enough to watch it all the way through, but probably won't watch it again.

Jackson Pollock’s late work is rich people wallpaper.
He has some good stuff though: https://emuseum.mfah.org/objects/30152/composition-with-figures-and-banners?ctx=2e524d5fa599736b1f94c834453ee0eaae99942d&idx=6

We are listening to it now; when we watched it I was pretty blown away. The character development is so good and the underlying use of rap and story telling really grabbed me.

Not even HMS Pinafore? Its so annoyingly, irritatingly quotable.

It was just the first name that popped into my head. I’ve just never looked at the majority of abstract expressionism and felt a personal connection.
But like I said, nothing against him or anyone else creating art. It just doesn’t appeal much to me is all.

Sure, songs can be catchy. It’s more of an overall concept that a long story told in song doesn’t speak to me. Even if it’s about a lass that loved a sailor. :)

And also a subplot of how well- connected politicians can get themselves appointed to roles for which they are entirely unqualified.

I liked it. I’m just not going to watch it over and over and over and over and over again.
Fun fact: The actor that plays King George (Jonathan Groff) also voices Kristoff in the Frozen movies. Does that mean he also voices Kristoff’s reindeer, Sven? Yes. Yes it does.

Have you given Avenue Q a chance before?

I did a handful of theater in high school . Met all kinds musical geeks, all of which are awesome people, but I’m just not as big a fan of watching musicals as I am either 1.) being in them or 2.) watching plays. Comedy of Tenors is a show with one song that I highly suggest anyone watch. It’s hysterical, I love it to bits. May not be entirely suitable for the kids though.
That being said, I was lucky enough to get to go to broadway and watch Come From Away , a story about the Canadian island of Gander during 9/11, when all the planes had to land. It tells so many different stories simultaneously , it has its ups and downs, and while it’s harder for a song to show the audience a characters feelings and much easier to tell them, this musical refrains from doing that very often. Each song describes what’s going on, each character interprets it their own way. It’s an amazing piece. I’m not sure if that one’s readily available for watching, but if it is holy moly you gotta see it. That one would be fantastic to show the kids (I think. It has a better, more important message of love and acceptance than Comedy of Tenors. May still have some adult topics, but it’s certainly not maliciously so ).

Never heard of it
